LEDA Annual Reception: The Best Ticket in Town

Outside, it was one the winter’s snowiest evenings, but inside, the celebration was warm at LEDA’s Annual Reception. Held each year in early February, the reception gives LEDA’s supporters an opportunity to meet the Scholars that motivate our work and to toast LEDA’s growth and accomplishments. With the founding of our new Leadership Council and LEDA’s expansion to 100 Scholars, we had much to celebrate this year.

A Night to Remember

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the LEDA Champion Award to Anthony W. Marx, President and CEO of the New York Public Library and President Emeritus of Amherst College. Dr. Marx has been a powerful advocate for educational equity over his entire career.

Trustees

As President of Amherst, he led the college to become one of the most diverse in the nation, nearly doubling the number of students receiving federal Pell Grants, which are reserved for students from low-income backgrounds.

He is an inaugural member of LEDA’s Leadership Council, and LEDA was proud to recognize him for this leadership in promoting diversity and equity in higher education.
