LEDA’s 2023 Annual Celebration is coming up on May 3! We are excited to see everyone again and toast LEDA’s successes. Every year, LEDA recognizes an Alumni Honoree who has demonstrated exceptional leadership while embodying LEDA’s four Core Values – Excellence, Integrity, Compassion, and Community. This year, we are proud to recognize Verónica Quintero, a LEDA Cohort 4 alum!
Verónica has nearly a decade of experience working as a bilingual broadcast journalist. She launched her career as a reporter for the NBC affiliate KNDU/KNDO in the Tri-Cities/Yakima market, where she also launched the first local Telemundo newscast in the Pacific Northwest. Her career then took her to Las Vegas where she worked with Telemundo as a general assignment reporter for the evening weekday newscasts. There, she earned her first Regional Emmy nomination for her coverage of the October 1, 2017, mass shooting in Las Vegas. Verónica is currently working as a weather anchor at Telemundo Arizona and is pursuing a second degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State University.
Originally from Mattawa, WA, a town of about 5,000 people in the heart of Washington State, Verónica watched her Mexican parents work tirelessly in physically demanding jobs, which motivated her to consider other options after high school. During her junior year, Verónica’s high school counselor brought LEDA to her attention, and she later secured a spot as a LEDA Scholar.
Verónica graduated from Wahluke High School as co-valedictorian and a Gates Scholar in 2009. Thanks to LEDA’s mentorship and guidance, she went on to the University of Washington in Seattle, where she graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a double minor in Spanish and Diversity. She’s the first person in her immediate family to graduate both from high school and college.
